In an email from Hans Rerup: "In some later research of the van Leeuwen family I found that Herman van Leeuwen is mentioned in the list of knights in the Nederbetuwe under Malderick in "Gelre Knights 1468". This means that he could not have been born around 1760 as he would have been only 8 years old, and because young men could not enter the list of knights before they were about 18-20 years. Therefore, I changed the approximate year of the birth of Hermann van Leeuwen from 1460 to 1440. There is much more about the family van Leeuwen, but before 1500 it becomes more difficult to prove the connection. A major van Leeuwen family history was written about 1650 by a member of the family. This genealogy goes back to about 1200, when the first one was knighted . LDS film 1573121: "The van Leeuwen Family and its Feudal Possessions in the Rheinland "revised and issued 1984 by M.S.G.A. and Jac. van Leeuwen, translated into English by Henry G. van Leuwen, PhD.: Call number: 929.2492 A1 No. 233. The first part is written in 1650 by Simon van Leeuwen; second section is written about 1925. " Malderick: Gerrit van Cuelenborch Johan van Opwijck Ott van den Gruijthusen (niet op de lijst van 1460) Herman van Leeuwen Willem van Culenborgh (op de lijst van 1460 nog: Hubert van Cuylenborch) Malderick = Maurik See http://members.chello.nl/g.vbenthem/riddercedulgelre1468.htm Also see http://ftp.castel.nl/~smita01/van%20der%20veen.htm#Veertiende%20Generatie about Herman's potential father ▼References
