Herbert was married to Anna Crawford. They lived and farmed in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada. They had two sons, Forrest and Donald. All four moved to Spokane, WA in the late 1940's at different times. Don and Forrest both attended and graduated from WSU. Herbert and Anna moved to Bothell, WA, and Later Shoreline, WA where they lived out the rest of their lives. Anna Crawford, along with her parents Jakob and Helga immigrated from Iceland to northern Alberta. Herbert was know to all to be extremely kind and generous. He toiled as a farmer in northern Alberta with his family, where winters were bitter cold and long. While in Bothell, WA, Herbert worked on farm. He suffered the loss of his leg when a tractor he was driving threw a chain.
