Dr. H. G. Saunders died December 22, at his residence on North Ionia Street, after an illness of three months. Dr. Henry G. Saunders was born at Petersburg, N. Y., June 15, 1819. He attended the medical college at Geneva, N. Y., and the medical department of the university of the city of New York, graduating from the latter in 1847. Later he post-graduate courses, both in New York and Philadelphia and commenced his practice at Adams, Jefferson County, N. Y. A year and a half later, he removed to Ellisburg, N. Y., where he practiced eleven years.
He was married to Mary E. Woodell at Adams, N. Y., August 12, 1853. Just after the marriage, Dr. Saunders came to this city and had continued the practice of his profession here most of the time since that date.
He was very well known among a large circle of old settlers of the Valley City. His residence was for many years at No. 166 North Ionia Street, where his death occurred. Mrs. Saunders died in 1878.
Mr. Saunders leaves an adopted daughter, Mrs. Anna King, of Chicago; two brothers, T. P. Saunders, of Adams, N. Y., and William G. Saunders, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. E. Scrivens, who was most attentive to her brother during his long illness, and was with him until the end.
