  4. When Civil War came, he applied for an exemption in mar 1862, but the Army denired his application. The available information suggests that Henry may have had some service in the regular Confederate Army before enlisting in the reserves. Capt. Griffin's company was mustered into service 30 May 1864, less than 1 year before the end of the war. The service of Capt Griffin and his men was principally in Brunswick and Greensville Counties where they mainly protected the home front against Yankeee raiders and guarded supplies and transportation routes.
