    "H.F. Meier Jr., 86, retired minister of the Central Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in Granbury.
    Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Acton United Methodist Church in Acton. Private graveside service: Riesel Cemetery in Riesel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home.
    Memorials: Alzheimer's Association.
    The Rev. Meier was born March 22, 1922, in Riesel to H.F. and Belle Behringer Meier. He married Jean Makowski on Aug. 24, 1941; she passed away Dec. 7, 2001. On May 3, 2002, he married Carolyn Snipes.
    He served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
    H.F. earned a bachelor of arts degree at Baylor University and earned a bachelor of divinity at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He served 52 years in the ministry, serving churches in Ben Hur, Kirk, Hurst, Mexia, Killeen, Waxahachie, Fort Worth, Waco, Brownwood and most recently Acton United Methodist Church in Acton. During that time he served under four bishops, William C. Martin, W. Kenneth Pope, W. McFerrin Stowe and John Russell.
    H.F. loved life and enjoyed mentoring young pastors. He was known for his great sense of humor. H.F. also loved to travel and take groups traveling. He had traveled all 50 states and to 60 foreign countries.
    He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
    Survivors: Wife, Carolyn Meier of Granbury; son, David Meier and wife, Anna; grandchildren, Tom Meier and James Meier; stepchildren, Mike, Phil and Chris McDaniel; sister, Opal Meier of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.
