From Geneva Courier 29 September 1858 Henry Marsh, a young man about 20 years of age, son of Samuel Marsh, a respectable farmer residing near Melvin Hill in the town of Phelps, was engaged with Messrs. E. Wilcox, Wm. Dillon and others in pursuit of game for the Railroad festival at Rochester, and while climbing a large tree for a coon, fell a distance of about 40 feet and was instantly killed.
