"Sir Roger de Leonne, son of a follower of the Conqueror, born in France in 1040, joined himself unto King Edgar, son of Malcolm Canmore 1091; received lands in Perthshire called Glen Lyon."[2] Henry came to the Colonies with his two brothers, Thomas and Richard Lyon in 1648. Henry went to Milford, Connecticut where he is first on record 24 Feb 1649. In 1666 he moved to New Jersey where he was one of the founders of Newark. He served as Town Treasurer for five years, 1668-73. He operated the first ordinary (inn) for travelers. He moved to Elizabethtown and owned much land there. He was member of the first General Assembly, November 5, 1675 - August 11, 1681. In 1681 he was made judge of small causes, and later Justice of the Peace (comparable to todays state Supreme Court). He was member of the governor's council in 1681 and in 1683, commissioner of the council. He returned to Newark in 1696.[3] References
