!BIRTH-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-DEATH: Merle Ganier, SOME DESCENDANTS OF JACOB KNIGHT OF PENNSYLVANIA AND LOUISIANA; 1734-1988; Author, 1990; pp. 4, 6-7; own copy. Henry KNIGHT, born around 1778 at Fort Pitt [now Pittsburgh], PA, son of Jacob & Christine INFELD. He married Marie Magdelaine LIQUEUR, daughter of Jean & Marie Ann MALBROUGH, on 30 Jun 1804 at St. Martinville [or Plattenville], LA; eight children listed. He died on 2 or 3 Mar 1847, aged 69 years, at Franklin, LA. According to James Leander CATHCART's journal (see LOUISIANA HISTORICAL QUARTERLY, vol. 28) Henry RENTROP had been authorized by the Territorial Legislature in 1822 [sic] to operate a ferry from the lower part of Bayou Teche, through Lakes Plat, Paloverde, de Jone and Verret, over 30 miles one way. The tolls were set at $4 for foot passenger, and $12 for a man and horse. When the seven-year permit expired, Frederick RENTROP, resident in Assumption Parish, and Henry KNIGHT of St. Mary, were granted the same privilege for another seven years. Henry also had a contract for carrying the mail to Donaldsonville.

    Henry KNIGHT specified in a claim dated 8 Oct 1812 to 640 acres on an island in St. Mary, and that it had been constantly cultivated since 1797 by the claimant, or someone by his permission for use.
    The Henry KNIGHT cemetery is preserved near Patterson, LA on what was known as the "Bradley" property.

!RESIDENCES: Marriage record says he is "of Fort Steven" [Fort Stephens?]. Early records of his children's births in Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, LA, state he was "of Fort Pitt" (1806) and "of Monongahela."

!LAND: Glenn R. Conrad, LAND RECORDS OF THE ATTAKAPAS DISTRICT; ; vol. II, part 1; p. 106; own copy. Henry KNIGHT sold to Henry RENTROP of Assumption Parish a tract of land located on the west side of Bayou Teche, measuring 2 x 40, bounded above by the lands of the vendor and below by vacant land. Price: $800.

   On p. 395, Ursin PRÉVOST sold to Henry KNIGHT and Frederick RENTROP of Assumption Parish a slave named Same (age 31) for $700 cash. Dated 2 Feb 1818, record No. 561 in St. Mary Parish [LA] Conveyances.
