  5. Conversation
with Lynn Keim, 3 Aug 2007.

    Notes from conversation with
    LYNN KEIM
    3 August 2007

Lynn Keim, 12639 Highway 9, Malvern, AR 72104
    (501) 332-2378

Lynn was born in Davenport, Thayer County, Nebraska in Sept 1923. His family lived on a farm. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1949 with a degree in math and science. Later he earned a master's degree and Education Specialist degrees from Western Illinois University. He was 50 hours short of a PhD.

He met Eleanor Jane Hokamp (Jane) in Scott's Bluff county, where her father ran the Union Pacific railroad station. During the first years of their marriage, they lived on a farm near New Windsor, Illinois. She finished her degree in home economics from Monmouth College in Illinois after they were married. She was big into 4-H in Nebraska - she won an award either in high school or in college. She loved to sew and sewed all her own clothing.

Both of them were school teachers. He taught math and science, and she taught home economics. He taught first in Sherrard, Illinois, then in Woodhull, Illinois. Then she got a job in Moline, Illinois. Not long after, Lynn was offered a job at Wilson Junior High School in Moline, where he taught for many years. Jane became director of the Home Economics program for the Moline school system, and later, after he got more degrees, he became assistant principal at Wilson Junior High School.

She became quite sick while they lived in Moline. She had some major surgery. The doctor fixed her up pretty well, but recommended that she get out of the cold climate, so they moved to Arkansas.

In Arkansas, her heath problems returned. The doctor recommended that she go back to the same doctors in Moline who had helped her so much. They returned to Illinois in 1985 for treatment of gastric malasia. About 95% of her stomach was removed surgically.

Jane died in about October 1991 in Moline, Illinois and was buried in Memorial Cemetery outside of Galesburg, IL in plots the bought shortly after they were married. They had been married just short of 30 years.

In April 1992, Lynn married Geneva, a native Arkansasan.

Jane and Lynn have one son, Kent Richard, who lives in Illinois and is a corn breeder. He breeds field corn. His wife works at Rush Hospital in Chicago. They both have their PhDs. At one point, Kent and his wife both taught at Oklahoma State University.

Kent and his wife have one son, Lee Ray Keim. He is attending Louisiana State University studying education.

Jane's uncle Henry ran a liquor store. Hilda lived in Eastern Nebraska. Edward had a son named Vernon. He married once, and that wife died of cancer. Then he married a second time.
