"Kenneth Goss-Funeral services for Kenneth Goss, 91, Sidney (MT), wereheld Dec. 10, 2002, at the Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church, Sidney, withPastor Bruce Vallevik and Pastor Tom Bechtold Bergstedt. Henry KennethGoss was born in Aurora, MO, Dec. 19, 1910, to parents W.O. Goss andBessie (Hulings) Goss. He was one of 10 children. When Kenneth was 2years old, his family loaded their belongings in a railroad immigrantcar and moved to Montana where they homesteaded south of Brockton inwhat is now Richland County. Kenneth worked as a cowboy as a young man.Among his employers was the Frye Cattle Co. of Poplar. He was especiallyproud of riding his first bronc when he was only 11 years old. In 1933,he attended a Christmas party at Bottens School where he met theschoolteacher who was to become his wife. Kenneth and Florence Powellwere married on June 9, 1937, in Sidney. Kenneth entered the army in1944 and was honorably discharged. The family returned to Sidney.Kenneth wrote two poetry books and two western novels beginning when hewas in his 70's. Kenneth survived broken bones, cancer, heart surgeryand many other illnesses. Through it all he retained his great sense ofhumor, which drew people to him and made so many lifelong firends. Hisgift was not in making friends, but in knowing how to be a friend. Hewas good at it. Kenneth is survived by his five children; 15grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and an honorary daughterdaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Florence in2001"
