Henry Dixon Sr. was born in 1723 [s/b abt. 1710] in Prince George County, Virginia, the son of Thomas Dixon and Judith Wingfield . He married Elizabeth Abernathy, of whom their second great grandson Joseph Addison Turner wrote:

"Miss Elizabeth Abernethy, a relative of John Abernethy, the great and eccentric London physician, of whose bluntness and idiosyncasies [sic], more than one member of the Turner family partakes in a large degree.” [1]
Henry Dixon and Elizabeth Abernathy had several children, of which one, their son Col. Henry Dixon (Henry Dixon Jr), was a Revolutionary war hero [2] who "was wounded in the neck by a cannon ball, at the siege of Yorktown". [3]

Henry Dixon's family had roots in Prince George County, Virginia, in the part that is now Dinwiddie County. One land grant describes a sale in Prince George County of 931 acres on 20 March 1745 to Henry Dickson [Henry Dixon Sr]. This is particularly of interest because the parcel is described as “on South side of Sappone Creek, adj Joseph Carter “and his brother Richard Carter’s line.” This refers to the family of Fanny Carter whose daughter, Maria Carlos married Henry Dixon Sr's son Tillman Dixon. [4]

Henry's 2nd great-grandson Joseph Addison Turner further wrote:
"From this family of Dixons were descended the Hon. Archie Dixon, late federal senator from Kentucky, and Robert Emmet Dixon, of Georgia, late clerk of the Confederate House of Representatives, who was killed by Forde, of Kentucky.” [5]
Henry died Oct 4, 1795 in Caswell County, North Carolina.

Henry was mentioned on a memorial with a death date of Oct 1795.[6]
