Henry Crumrine, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Services will be held at 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.
Henry was born on March 30, 1933 in Baclaran, Paranaque, Rizal in the Philippine Islands to Francis Lawrence Crumrine and Roberta Pineda Basco. On April 26, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at Clark Air Force Base. He served for 22 years, starting as a Private in the Medical Field and ending as a Master Sergeant in the military Security and Law Enforcement career field.
Upon retirement from the Air Force on October 31, 1973 at the age of 40, Henry obtained employment with the U.S. Veterans Administration as a Law Enforcement Police Officer at Audie Murphy VA Hospital, San Antonio. He performed duties as Lead Police officer and was later promoted to Captain. He served as Assistant Police Chief for 13 years before his second retirement.
Besides his military career, Henry’s fondest accomplishment was meeting the love of his life, Hiltrud Karl Crumrine, in 1962. They married in Trier, Germany on April 30, 1962 and had two lovely daughters. He was a very loyal friend, kind and generous. He enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, writing, and was an ardent reader who particularly loved WW2 Pacific literature.
Henry was a devoted Husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed, remembered, cherished, and honored by his immediate family.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Hiltrud Karl Crumrine; his daughters, Patricia Karl and Michelle McCool (Eric); his granddaughters, Jessica Madsen (fiance George Sims), Jennifer Santiago (Art), and Brittany Madsen; his great-grandchildren Ava Eddings, Jaithan Brann, and Alyssa Santiago-Crumrine; his sisters, nieces, and nephews; and his life-long friend Albert "Sonny" Russell (Mary) of Kansas City, Missouri.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Roberta Crumrine.
