Henry Clay Crow was born on 15 Aug 1844 in Athens, McMinn, Tennessee, the fourth child of Isaac Crow and Catherine Senter. He had eight siblings: Diana Elizabeth, Christopher, Sarah M, Isaac N., James Atkins, John Senter, Alexander, and Catherine Alice. He joined the Union Army, and was a private in Co. D, Regiment 4, of the Tennessee Cavalry. He had married Rachel Smith before he left home, when he was 18. He died in the Civil War on 04 Oct 1863 in Tennessee at about 19 years old. Henry Clay Crow was buried in Murfreesboro, Rutherford, Tennessee.
