It is unclear when Henry Crook arrived at St Kitts or where he came from in England but in a later disposition before the Chief Justice he (Henry) stated that he had been many times to Thomas Warner's house. The family prospered as sugar plantation owners and became wealthy by the standards of the day. Some stayed on in St Kitts but suffered through the loss of trade with the East Coast of the US because of the blockade during and after the American War of Independence. However, a number also made it back to England before the 1770 and lived in some style in and around London (Marylebone, Brooke Street, Nottingham Place, Portland Square etc.) A few married into the minor nobility but eventually the family, in England at least, died away and their wealth had largely dissipated by the beginning of the 1800s. The same seems to be true for the branches in St Kitts and in Montserrat as cane sugar prices fell with increased worldwide production from alternative sources. References
