Following is from "Wood CO Sentinel", Thursday, 2 SEP 1869. A Pioneer Gone- On Saturday, July 31st, the body of Mr. Henry Copus was consigned to the tomb. Thirty-seven years ago last December, he made the first land entry made in Bloom Township, where he continued to live until bidding adieu to all things earthly. He was a native of Pennsylvania. From his native state he emigrated with his father, while a mere lad, to Richland CO, OH, where he witnessed his father's death by a blow from an Indian's tomahawk.

Mr. Copus was possessed of an iron constitution, qualifying him for the severe trials of life through which he passed. His life had been lengthened to the unusual age of three score, ten and four years. He was an unflinching friend of his country and manifested a lively interest in her behalf. During the upheaval of recent years, no less than five of his sons were in the ranks of his countries defenses. He was one of the few of earth that felt satisfied with his lot in life, whether the path was smooth or rough, all the same to him. He met the realities of life with an unflinching courage. His early surroundings in life compelled him to be adept with the rifle. Many a deer fell to the unerring precision of his rifle.

He was a regular attendant at the election of the township, whether officers for the township, state or general government were to be elected, Mr. Copus's name was found on the pollbook. He was an affable and kind hearted man. Am aged widow with several children are left to deplore the loss of a husband and father. Peace to his ashes. W.S. Richards.
