FROM FINDAGRAVE.COM Birth: Apr. 16, 1828, USA Death: Jan. 3, 1888 Brown County Texas, USA ---Henry George was an early pioneer to Brown County and was involved in ranching in an area which is now south of Lake Brownwood some of what had been his land in under Lake Brownwood. He had at least one son... John T. Cason, born in 1859.. ---The Cason family were very early pioneers of Brown County and had extensive land holdings (several square miles). They owned much of the land extending from Jim Ned Creek (now the South shore of Lake Brownwood including Cason Cove and Feather bay area) further south to the Cross Plains highway #279 which includes the land that Rocky Creek Church and Cemetery are now located. Henry George Cason, contructed a rock house with windows about eye-high, probably for defensive purposes. He was later killed and scalped by Indians near the intersection of HWY 279 and Farm Rd #---- early one morning while hunting his horses. The date on his tombstone says Jan. 3, 1888. If this is accurate then he may have the last person in the county to be killed by Indians. The junction of the Jim Ned and Pecan Bayou area had for years been a winter home for plains Indians because there was have a lot of food, water, and flintstone available. There are many Indian mounds in the area and on Cason land. They made stone tools and arrowheads out of the available flintstone. ---The Cason family was involved in ranching, and later had a few productive oil wells on their property. The odd fact is there are no males kin to this family with the Cason name anymore despite how large the family was. Many of them had no kids or else had girls only.
