From there they went to Northern Lower Michigan in 1875 and settled in what was Little Traverse then, now Harbor Springs, when there were only five white families living there. The rest of the population were native americans. From Harbor Springs they settled on a homestead fourteen miles north when the country at that time was still a wilderness. From their homestead they moved to Brutus, Michigan in 1888 and went into the millin business.
