On Thursday evening a severe accident occurred to a little boy, three years of age, belonging to Mr J. E. Balderston, who resides near the Smythesdale toll gate. The child had been playing about near his uncle, who was chopping some firewood, and having climbed upon a log, attempted to leap down, when his clothes caught and the poor little fellow fell on his right leg, fracturing it badly a little above the ankle. Dr Barnett was called, and rendered such professional services as could be given under the circumstances; but it appears that it is likely to be some time before the fracture will be so reduced as to admit of the leg being set.
