Helen Marie Zlatnik Metropoulos

Fremont, California - Helen Marie Zlatnik Metropoulos died on July 13, 2021 in Washington Hospital, Fremont, California. She was born Oct. 30, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Anthony and Edna Fuller Zlatnik.
Helen graduated with a BA from the University of the Pacific in 1958. She taught for 35 years in elementary schools in California, Utah, and Arizona. In 1962 Helen married, Nicholas Metropoulos; and was married to him for 59 years. Helen had a life long love of music, and was an accomplished pianist. She had a passion for teaching and found great satisfaction working with children and their families. She enjoyed travel in Hawaii, Greece, Czech Republic, Central America, the United States, meeting and talking with people wherever she went, expanding her understanding of different world views . She read extensively and enjoyed a Modesto book group for many years. She was intensely interested in current political issues and loved to talk about ideas.
She is survived by her brother John Zlatnik, his wife Judy, and two nephews: Peter Zlatnik of Sacramento, California and Andrew Zlatnik of Falls Church, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM August 5 at the Modesto Church of the Brethren, 2301 Woodland Avenue, Modesto, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Heifer Project International, 1 World Ave. Little Rock, Arkansas 72202.
