Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - Sunday, April 9, 2006 Born March 14, 1915, in St. Paul, MN, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Anna S. Ballata Sebesta. On June 6, 1938, she married James E. Ertz Sr. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington. He died March 3, 2000. Mrs. Ertz was a homemaker. Early in her marriage she was a stewardess at the Burlington Golf Club. Later in life she was a cook for the hot lunch program at Notre Dame High School and a matron at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Paul's High School. She was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington and its Altar & Rosary Society. She belonged to the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She loved singing, dancing, gardening, crocheting, playing golf, was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed making pickles, and she loved to make people laugh. Survivors include four sons, Jim (Margaret) Ertz Jr. of Englewood, FL, Larry (Caroline) Ertz of Amana, IA, Walter (Sherry) Ertz of Cedar Falls, IA and Rick (Laurie) Ertz of Ames, IA; two daughters, Joanne (Dan) Boyle of West Burlington and Eileen Weddle of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Brian Boyle, Bernie Boyle, Mike Boyle, Tim Boyle, Corinne Persons, Ryan Ertz, Anne Ertz, Deborah Pence, Chris Hicks, Michele Jenson, Laure Johnson, Kristy Ertz, Emily Ertz, Ben Ertz and Elaine Ertz; 16 great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM Monday, April 10, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends following a 6:30 PM Rosary Service until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Ertz will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 11, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington with Rev. Father Gerald E. Stouvenel as the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Burlington Notre Dame Inc. and SS.
