Hyannis - Helen (Jansen) Tufts, 83, a resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 7, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville. She was the wife of the late Sidney Tufts. Mrs. Tufts was born in Pittsfield. She moved to Hyannis in 1980 after living in Pittsfield and Northampton for many years. In addition to favorite pastimes of sewing and reading, she prided herself on having an extensive vocabulary, which she regularly demonstrated by beating family members at games of Scrabble and Upwords. Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Tufts of Hyannis, Penelope Tufts of Barnstable and Candace Gross of Woodstock, Ga.; two sons, Sidney Tufts of Carlsbad, Calif., and Christopher Tufts of Sutton and Mashpee; two sisters, Lorraine Mueller of Maryland and Doris Golden of Shrewsbury; a brother, William Jansen of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
