LIBERTY - Mrs. Helen Daphne Holt Euliss, 88, formerly of Foster Store Road, passed away at the Clarebridge Community of Brookdale Senior Living in Burlington at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 25, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Julian, she was wife of the late Samuel Homer Euliss and daughter of the late John Robert and Elma Woods Holt. Helen received degrees from Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught English in the Burlington City and Alamance County Schools and at Elon University for approximately 50 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, was the recipient of the Daniels- Danieley Teaching Award, served on the Alamance County School Board, was a member of the Board of Trustees for Alamance Community College, and was active in the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. She was called to teach, and she loved her students. She taught Sunday School at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville and served on various committees in the church. She was a member of the Ila Tabor Circle. When she moved to Brookdale (formerly Burlington Manor), she started and taught a Sunday School class there for several years. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Daphne Key and husband, Col. Larry Key (USAF, retired); granddaughters, Jane Key and Jennifer Wilson; and brother, Gordon Holt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Holt Euliss; brothers and sisters, Raymond Holt, Lewis Holt, Earl Holt, Johnnie Coble, Elizabeth York, Verda Holt and Ruth Matheson. Mrs. Euliss will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the committal service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their loving concern and care for Helen. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to the Clarebridge staff and Alamance Regional Medical Center staff for giving Helen and her family so much compassionate support during the weeks preceding her death.
