"Henry F Nordmeyer came to America, Quincy Illinois then in Kankakee County then he brought his father and mother to this country. Henry Nordmeyer served as an officer in the Prussian Army, having been educated for a military career. After his military services he took up farmning and also followed the trade of cooper." Henry Nordmeyer was born in Hanover, Germany 10 Sep 1851. He came to this country at the age of 17 years, settling first at Quincy and moving to Kankakee County the following year. In 1880 he first became a landowner in Illinois, purchasing an 80 acre tract in Norton Township. Since then his holdings increased until he became the owner of 680 acres.

"Being of a studious nature, he made a study of scientific farmning and becamse one of the most successful in the county. His standing in this community was shown by his election as supervisor of Norton Township 3 years and highway commissioner six years."

"He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Chebanse and for years was on its board of directors."
