http://www.electricscotland.com/history/inverness/chapter4.htm II. HECTOR married, said to be his second wife, Margaret, third daughter of Malcolm, tenth of Mackintosh, under whom the above Charles Maclean described as "Tearlach Vic Eeachin Vic Wolan " had taken protection for himself and his successors. Mr Mackay explains very clearly the origin of the questions between the Mackintoshes and the Kilravocks anent the possessions of the crown lands of Urquhart and Glenmoriston, arising out of the above marriage, and it is matter of regret to the descendants of Maclean and Mackintosh that, while too weak to retain them himself, Kilravock was the means whereby the lands were lost to both families. Hector Maclean was ultimately succeeded by his son, Eachuinn Buidhe, Fair haired Hector Chamberlain of Urquart Castle 1440 Constable of Urquart Castle 1454 Hector Maclean, Seneschal of Urquhart 1440, married Mor, daughter of Mackintosh of Clan Chattan, and signed the Clan Chattan Bond on Clan Tearlach's behalf. http://www.lighthousewoods.com/genealogy/carlos/carlos_maclean.html J..P. MacLean, page 254. "Sir Donald of Lochalsh assailed castle Urquhart, and, after a desperate resistance, Hector Buie and all the garrison were put to the sword." Event: Charter ABT 1450 , Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Note: "A History of the Clan MacLean" by J.P. MacLean, page 252 - 255. "Hector Buie succeeded to the estates of his father, and also as constable of Urquhart, about 1450." "A History of the Clan MacLean", by J.P. MacLean, page 204. "Hector Buie entered the confederacy or union of clans known as the Clan Chattan. Hector held the lands of Darothgarrioch of the abbots of Kinloss, and the 100 merks land of Kilmalew of William Creighton." He seems to have been involved in many of the cattle raids among the clans of the area. |
