    His 79th Birthday.(for the Climax)
    Mr. Haden Turpin celebrated his 79th birthday at his home on Muddy creek, near Doylesville, Monday, May the 18th, 1896. All his children and grandchildren were present. His children ar as follows: Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Turpin, Brookstown, Mr.and Mrs. J.W.Harris, and Mrs. W.P.Dunbar, both of Muddy creek, Mr. and Mrs. Haden Turpin, Jr., Runyon Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Turpin. of Red House, R.D. and Alex Turpin. His neighbors present were Mr.and Mrs Sam Griggs, Mr.and Mrs. J.M.Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Tipton, Mrs. Nathan Noland, J.A.Noland, J.W.Powell and daughter Callie, Misses Maggie-Broaddus, Mattie East and Julia Park. The day was pleasantly spent by all who were present.
    Mr. Turpin has been very fortunate- has never lost a child or grand child. He has seven children and fourteen grandchildren. We extend our best wishes to both Mr. Turpin and his wife and hope he will live to see many more birthdays.
    After dining he gave each of his children $100, which was highly appreciated by all. A.T.[7]
  3.   Turpin Sale.
    The Richmond Climax. Sept 28,1904
    The farm and stock belonging to the late Haden Turpin was sold last week a Doylesville and everything brought good prices. One tract of land containing 233 1/4 acres was bought by James Harris for $36 per acre. The second tract of 208 acres was sold to William Dunbar for $35.50 per acre. and the third tract of 166 1/4 acres was sold to Hayden Turpin Jr., for $25 per acre. A 5-year old mare mule brought $166;1 15-year old horse mule brought $87; 1 20 year-old mare mule brought $41;1 10 year-old mare $70; 1 10 year-old saddle horse $79; cattle $18 to $40; cows $25 to $31;Calves $12 to $15; heifer calves $10; hogs form $5 to $5.62;corn $1.60 to $17.70 in the field; hay $9 per ton; fodder 15 to 18 cents a shock.
