Hattie was 13 when the picture was taken. Her father was German and both her mother's parents were German. Her father was a farmer in Thornton Township in 1900, and a brickmaker in 1910.
Hattie was unmarried and still living with her parents in Riverdale Village in 1930. In 1910 she was working in a milliner (hatmaking) shop, in 1920 she was working as a sorter in a seed house, and in 1930 she was working as a labeler.
