F.H.L.B. Aide Suffers Heart Attack After Attending Fete for Governor
Col. Harvey L. Jones, 60, assistant to the general counsel of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, died yesterday of a heart attack in a Richmond hotel.
Col. Jones, who lived at 2022 Columbia road N.W., had gone to Richmond last Friday to attend a ball given by the Richmond Light Infantry Blues in honor of Gov. James H. Price. He appeared to be in excellent health, but was stricken with the heart attack on arising yesterday.
A veteran of the World War, Col. Jones had served overseas in the 29th Division, becoming inspector general of the division after serving earlier as commander of the Richmond Blues. Previously he had served on the Mexican border.
For his overseas service he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Croix de Guerre and the Purple Heart Decoration.
Col. Jones was born in Tuckerton, N. J. He was graduated from Princeton University and later received a law degree from the University of Maryland. He entered private practice with a Baltimore law firm and later became manager of the Chicago office of the Maryland Casualty Co. Subsequently he became executive vice president of the New York Casualty Co. and about four years ago joined the F. H. L. B.
Among survivors are his widow, Mrs. Sadie Schlegel Jones; two daughters, Mrs. C. T. Smelzer, Pittsburgh, and Miss Kathryn Harvey Jones, this city, and one grandchild.
Tentative plans have been made for funeral services tomorrow. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
