At Western 45 Years
A longtime resident of Roland Park, she taught at Western for 45 years before her retirement in 1951. Although she was a teacher at the time, she was elected president of the class of 1910 by her pupils at the school.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the Rev. J. Wynne Jones, founder of the Abbott Memorial United Presbyterian Church, at Highland avenue and Bank street, of which she was a member. She graduated from what is now Goucher College in 1901 and later obtained a master's degree there. She was also instrumental in obtaining passage of a law outlawing the payment of smaller salaries to female teachers than to similarly qualified men.
She is survived by two brothers, J. Wynne Jones, of Overlea, and Leonard Joens, of Phoenix, Ariz., and a number of nieces and nephews.
