Research Notes

  • I believe that Harry was married twice, but it is confusing because both wives had very similar first and middle names.
    • Harry's first wife was "Margaret A(nna) Unknown" and she was the mother of at least 3 children who all died before the age of 2 while the family was living in Wilmington, DE before dying herself during childbirth in 1901 in Lebanon, PA. Evidence to support this theory includes:
      • All 3 death certificates of the children list the parents as Harry S and Margaret A Sakers.
      • One of these children was Raymond Q Sakers, who was born and died in 1896. That same year, the family was documented in the 1896 Wilmington city directory 3, where this wife was identified as "Annie".
      • Later, the family moved to Lebanon, PA where they can be found in the 1901 Lebanon city directory 4. Here the wife was listed as "Mrs. Anna."
      • In 1901, "Mrs. Anna M Sakers" died in Lebanon, PA during childbirth, and according to her death certificate (see person page), her body was shipped to Wilmington, DE for burial.
    • Harry's 2nd wife was Anna M Shasteen, daughter of James and Catharine Shasteen, of Ohio. This wife is the one most commonly identified in the research.
