Harry served in the British Navy prior to the start of World War II as an Able Seaman. He was killed on 5 Jul 1940 while serving on the HMS Whirlwind when the ship was torpedoed by the German submarine U-34 in the North Atlantic sea southwest of Ireland. His name is included in the Naval memorial in Chatham, Kent.
