The 1900 census identifies Harry Krob as a coal miner living at home in Connellsville, Pennsylvania with his mother and brother Louie, who was also identified as a coal miner. His mother ran a boarding house.

Harry Krob married Elise Hirzel June 25, 1903 initially living in Connellsville and eventually settling in New Kensington, PA. Their three children were born in PA: Elise (Elsie) in 1904, Alfred in 1906 and Marie in 1908. Soon after they moved to Toledo, Ohio, where Hirzel Family had settled, and they opened a neighborhood grocery store at the corner of Thurston and Delence on the East Side. Harry later took a job working for the City Water Department, eventually becoming a manager there. They bought a new home at 541 Raymer Blvd., also on the East Side, around 1914. Harry lived there until his death.
