Impressive Rites Held for Veteran of Three Wars

Impressive funeral services were conducted at Woodland cemetery yesterday afternoon for Harry Cook Beaver, of 2022 South Wayne avenue, veteran of three wars, and well known local business man. Services were attended by a large number of friends, a group of members of the Dayton Post 5, American Legion and a military guard of honor composed of Brigadier General Harold M. Bush of Columbus and his staff and a score of members of the 62nd Field Artillery brigade.

Photographs shown above were taken during the funeral services. The drum and bugle corps, marching at the head of the procession with muffled drums, is shown in No. 1. Brigadier General Bush and his staff is shown in No. 2 as they stood near the open grave during the final rites. The flag draped casket being born through the guard of honor from the hearse to the grave is shown in No. 3, while No. 4 shows the casket just prior to being lowered into the grave with Rev. Frank F. Secrist, pastor of the Second Trinity Lutheran church pronouncing the final rites.

Mr. Beaver, who was 61 years old, died at his residence Wednesday non [sic] after having been ill since last September. He first saw service in the Spanish-American war and served for a number of years after that in the regular army. His next active service was on the Mexican border in 1914 with General John. J. Pershing and when Battery D, the Dayton unit of the national guard was mustered into service in the World war, he went as a sergeant with the outfit to France.

Having spent more than 35 years in the regular army and national guard, seeing active service in three wars, his comrades paid him a tribute yesterday seldom accorded an enlisted man.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Daisy L. Beaver; one son, Eugene; two daughters, Anne Josephine and Ida E. Beaver, four grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Mary Agnes Beaver, one brother, and three sisters.
