"56. 'CAPTAIN' HARRIS6 (Hopkins) (Asa,5 Consider,4 John,3 Stephen,2 John1), b. at Litchfield, Connecticut, 1 March 1744-45; … He d. 16 December 1820 … (Inscriptions in Northfield.) Captain Harris6 lived in the southeast part of Litchfield, called Northfield. He owned a large tract of land and was a manufacturer of spinning and flax-wheels. (Residents of Litchfield [1720-1800], p. 109.) During the Revolution he was one of a committee engaged in the distribution of supplies, salt, clothing, etc. He also served in the army as a private from Litchfield, and his name appears on the Marching Roll, 4 March 1777, of Capt. Shubael Griswold's Company, Third Battalion of Militia, Colonel Enos. (Connecticut Men in the Revolution, p. 424; Connecticut Historical Society, 8:273; D.A.R. Lineage Books, 14:247.) After the Revolution he was a Captain of Militia."
