    Harold Francis Jennings, age 87, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.

    He was born on September 21, 1920, the son of late Elmer and Fern (Fiscus) Jennings in Bridgeport, Illinois.

    He was a 1938 graduate of Bridgeport High School. In 1941, he began working for Texaco Oil Company in Southern Illinois.

    In 1942, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He participated in North Africa; Salerno, Italy; and Normandy, France invasions.

    After leaving the navy in 1946, he returned to work in Southern Illinois for Texaco. In 1953 he was transferred to the Mt. Vernon Texaco terminal where he retired in 1981 after 40 years of service.

    He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #5 of Mt. Vernon.

    He is preceded in death by his father in 1966 his mother in 1999, his two brothers; Veris "Bud" Jennings in 1998 and Dale "Whitey" Jennings in 2000.

    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary (Jones) Jennings of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, his son Steven Jennings and his wife Mona of Fayetteville, Georgia, his daughter Shirley Jennings of Fishers, Indiana, and his granddaughter Stephanie Jennings of Fayetteville, Georgia.

    He is also survived by his two sisters Velna Sivert and her husband Charles of Olney, Illinois and Norma Wilson and her husband Leo of Beech Grove, Indiana, and his sister-in-law Ruth Jennings of Bridgeport, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Faith United Methodist Church, 231 Woflin Street, Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Dennis Adams officiating, burial at Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, IL.
