• Oct. 4, 1765, Harmonas Alkire & wife Lydia sold more acreage to Michael Thorn.

• Dec. 7, 1789, Harmonas Alkire & wife Lydia sold approx. 35 acres to Daniel Tevabough. [Source: Hardy County, Virginia Deed Book 2, pg. 35].

• Oct. 2, 1795, Harmonas Alkire & wife Lydia sold 100 acres to Abel Seymour from their lot 16 on the South Fork. [Source: Hardy County, Virginia Deed Book 4, pg. 144].

Will of Harmonius Alkire

Bourbon County Kentucky - May 29, 1800

In the name of God amen, I Harmonius Alkire senior of the county of Bourbon, and state of Kentucky being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind, and disposing memory for which I thank God, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, and being desirous to dispose of all such wordly Estate; - as it hath pleased God to bless me with I do make appoint and rattify this to be my last will and Testament and do hereby disannul and make void all other wills Testaments or Testamoneys heartofore, and this is to be my last will it is my desire that the hole of my Estate both real and personal after my deth should be sold of and Devided as I shall direct hereafter, and that is to say the money arising from the sale of my lands, and all the money that I have due me in this state and in Virginia - when collected - shall be equally divided between my six sons, that is to say William Alkire, John Alkire, Adam Alkire, Michael Alkire, Monis Alkire, George Alkire - after taking out thirty poundsapeace for my six Daughters of the above money that is to say, Catty, Elizabeth, Deboraugh, Margaret, Sally and Liddy - and then all the rest of my Estate- that is to say, all the moveable property, Except one mare and sucking coltcalled, nance mare,and them I bequeath and give to my Daughter Margret Alkire Extronary - more then the rest of my Daughters, and then the money arising from the sale of the moveable property, to be equally divided between my six sons, and six Daughters after all my just Debts is paid, I ratify and bequeath to all my children, as the above stands for to be them to dispose of as they see cause, forever and for the well management of all my affairs and due performances of this my last will and testament I do hereby ordain and constitute and appoint William Alkire and William Clarkeson to be my whole and sole Executors in Law to have this my last will and testament, well and punctually Executed. In witness of this my last will and Testamony.

This last will and testament of Harmonious Alkire deceased was produced in Court proved by the Oath of Jedediah Pullen and Jesse Fitzgerald witnesses thereto and orderedto be recorded; and on the motion of William Alkire and William Clarkeson theExecutors therein named who made oath thereto and together with Samuel Cutright, James Dennison, Julius Clarkson and John Artman their securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of five thousand pounds conditioned agreeably to law, certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

On Nov. 7, 1810, John & Susanna, George & Caty, Margaret, Elizabeth, Caty, Sarah Hornbeck, Dorothy & Michael, & Simon Hornback, appeared in the Pickaway Cty., Ohio court to be examined, & acknowledge the signing in Ky., as being of their own free will. MILITARY

Harmonas Alkire served in Lord Dunmore's War in an expedition against the Indians,1774-1775. He also served in the Colonial Army of Virginia as a First Lieutenant.

On Nov. 7, 1810, John & Susanna, George & Caty, Margaret, Elizabeth, Caty, Sarah Hornbeck, Dorothy & Michael, & Simon Hornback, appeared in the Pickaway Cty., Ohio court to be examined, & acknowledge the signing in Ky., as being of their own free will.

While still in Kentucky, Harmonas II had mail waiting for him at the post office, in care of Mr. Ingles, as reported in the Kentucky Gazette, Vol. 13, No. 706, 3 Mar, 1800.

• 1 May, 1800, in the Gazette, Vol. 13, No 710, a Charles Smith Jr., for Rezin Virgin, writes regarding a land transaction, and mentions Harmonious,(sp) living on Huston's fork in Bourbon Cty.

On 17 July, 1800, also in the Gazette, in Vol. 13, No. 721; William Alkin(sp) & William Clarkson, on 15 July 1800, Bourbon Cty, executors of the estate of Harmonious Alkin(sp), dec'd. who lived on the plantation formerly occupied by Charles Smith, Sr., regarding the estate sale.

from Rootsweb [1]: On May 29, 1800, Harmonas wrote (sic) his will, naming his 12 children, & listing their bequests. In the July, 1800 Bourbon Cty., Ky. court, his will was proved.

• Sept. 1, 1810, all of his children (w/ wives & husbands) appeared in Bourbon Cty., Ky. court to sign off on a land sale Harmonas had made in Licking, Bourbon Co., Ky to a Richard Smart. The children are listed as: William Alkire, John & Susanna, Michael & Dorothy, Adam. Harmonius Jr., George. Caty. Peggy. Elizabeth Mitts (widow), Deborah Alkire & Jacob Trumbo, Solomon Hornback & Lydia Alkire, Simon Hornback & Sally Alkire. On Nov. 7, 1810, John & Susanna, George & Caty, Margaret, Elizabeth, Caty, Sarah Hornbeck, Dorothy & Michael, & Simon Hornback, appeared in the Pickaway Cty., Ohio court to be examined, & acknowledge the signing in Ky., as being of their own free will.

• November 15, 1752, in the Augusta County Court Record book III, pg. 361, "James Simpson and Michael Stump, Overseers, with Jeremiah Osburn, Geo. • May 6, 1765, Lord Thomas Fairfax gave "Maunis" Alkire 294 acres of Lot 16 on the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River, in Hampshire Cty., Va.
• October 17, 1775, he was paid for serving as the 1st Lt. under Capt. James Parsons in Lord Dunmore's War, which was against 5 united Indian tribes under Chief Cornstalk in Mid Ohio.

Thirty plus years later, Harmonas II's children settled in this area, possibly lead there by their father's stories of the country.

• Oct. 3, 1765, Harmonas sold an unknown amount of acreage to Michael Thorn, adjoining Lot 17 in the South Fork.
• Oct. 4, 1765, Harmonas & Lydia sold more acreage to Michael Thorn.
• April 4, 1767, Michael Stump & Felix Seymour examined Lydia, to determine her free release of the property sold by Harmonas & herself.
• Dec. 7, 1789, Harmonas & Lydia sold approx. 35 acres to Daniel Tevabough. (Book 2, pg. 35, Hardy Cty., W.Va.)
• Oct. 2, 1795, Harmonas & Lydia sold 100 acres to Abel Seymour from their lot 16 on the South Fork. (Book 4, pg. 144, Hardy Cty., W.Va.) (This would also show that Lydia died somewhere between Oct. 3, 1795, & May 29, 1800)
