Grandgenett, 81, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at Pilot Butte Rehab. at Bend, Oregon. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa with John Sears, Minister officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa. Harlan was born April 16, 1929, at Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Nealy and Ida (Butts) Grandgenett. He attended school at Pisgah, Iowa. Harlan was employed by the city of Onawa as a police officer for 10 years and later was operator of the city water plant, where he retired after nearly 30 years with the city. Harlan and Darlene Marie Campbell were united in marriage in 1947 at Dakota City, NE. Harlan was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa. Darlene passed away July 2, 2004. Survivors include a son and his wife, Robert and Julie Grandgenett of La Pine, Oregon; grandchildren, Robert Grandgenett, Jr., Sheila Riley, Lisa Parks; 2 step-grandchildren, Jessie and Becky McCoy; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother Otis Grandgenett of Onawa,; a sister Ruth Young of Flatwood, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Elsie Grandgenett of Onawa; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ben Grandgenett; and a sister, Frances Thompson.
