1774 - named to the Committee of Safety

28 Nov 1776 - Col. Gregory Smith resigns as Capt. of Virginia Militia.

1779 - made colonel of 2nd Virginia State Regiment (Jun 1777-2 May 1779). He contributes supplies of beef and brandy to the army.

1782 - charged with 486 acres of land, the plantation on the Mattaponi River.

1789 - makes his will. He is not married and leaves his property in King and Queen County to nephew Thomas Gregory Smith.
