Donald C. Hadd of Shelburne, Vt. died Friday, Oct. 24 at Fletcher Allen Hospital surrounded by his loving family of four generations. Don was born in Barnet, Vermont on July 27, 1925, son of Gerald Hadd and Gladys (Rublee) Hadd. He was a graduate of Alburgh High School and attended College in Magnolia, Arkansas. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater and in the Japanese occupation forces. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Signal Corp and was honorably discharged in 1946. He and his wife owned and operated a clothing store in Bethel, Vermont and after selling the store, worked as a draftsman in the construction industry, until, most recently, working as a driver for the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and The Howard Services. He was fulfilling a need for the less fortunate. He had a great love for music, and entertained, playing piano at nursing and retirement homes. He also played organ at Trinity Church in Shelburne, All Saints Church in South Burlington, and Saint John's Church in Randolph, Vermont. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Teresa (LaBombard) Hadd, his daughter Melonie Hartwell and her husband Lewis of Shelburne, son James Hadd of Ripton, son Paul Hadd and his wife Mae of Bristol. Grandchildren: Garrett Hartwell and wife Tiffany, Travis Hartwell and wife Victoria, Shelly Weeks and husband Rob, and Kiana Corkum. Great-grandchildren: Spencer, Jeffrey, Katie, Lucas, Declan, and Leland. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Hadd of Montpelier, and her children Steve Hadd, and Andrea (Hadd) Myotte and their families. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and brother, Kenneth. Burial will be at the Missiquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 for anyone wishing to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the V.A.B.V.I., c/o Laurie, 37 Elmwood Avenue, Burlington, Vermont 05401. Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service of Shelburne is in charge of the arrangements.
