Obituary in the Boston Globe " Gipp Louis Ludcke, of Needham, a pioneer in the mutual fund industry, died Friday of heart failure in North Hill in Needham. He was 95. Mr Ludcke was born in St. Peter, Minn. He graduated in 1923 from Gustavus Adolphus College and from the graduate school of Business Administration of Harvard University in 1925. Soon after graduation, Mr. Ludcke began working with Willaim A. Parker and George Putnam Sr. of Incorporated Investors, one of the first mutual funds in the country. He was vice president of Parker Corp., Incorporated Investors' national sales organization. In 1940, he joined the George Putnam Fund of Boson and became president and director of Putnam Fund Distributors Inc. and vice president and director of the Putnam Group of Mutual Funds, later becoming a senior partner with the organization. After retiring in 1965, Mr Ludcke authored a syndicated column, "The Human Side of Investing" which ran in many newspapers, including the Boston Herald. He was also a feature writer for several professional investment journals. Mr. Ludcke leaves his wife, Eleanor (DeWolf); two daughters, Constance Huebner or San Mateo, Calif., and Barbara Weidliech of Needham; three grand children and one great-grandchild. His funeral was private. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge." Gipp once stated that is was his goal to live to 95 as none of the Ludckes had made it that far before. He accomplished his objective with six days to spare. References
