Giovanni Tagliapietra, a prominent operatic baritone and, in his younger days, a soldier under Garibaldi, was found dead in bed, on the morning of April 11. Mr. Tagliapietra was born in Venice and was educated at the University of Padua. His operatic debut was made in Florence in "La Favorita" and he later sang in London and Paris. His first American appearance was made at the Booth Theater in 1880 in "Lucia" with Etelka Gerster. His first wife was the pianist, Teresa Carreno, and his second Margaret Townsend, whom he married in 1900 and who survives him.
