An obituary for Gilman E. Seaver was published in the Portland Press Herald newspaper in Portland, Maine on 11 May 1998, with a correction made on 12 May 1998. The corrected obituary reads:

"Gilman E. Seaver, 84, of Promenade Avenue, died Saturday in a Biddeford hospital.

"He was born in North Troy, Vt., a son of Clive and Cleo Wright Seaver, and attended school there and in Newport, Vt. He also attended Boston Latin and the New England Conservatory of Music. He attended Nasson college and graduated from Boston College in 1955 cum laude.

"He received a fellowship to Yale University and did post-graduate work there and also at Harvard University and the University of New Hampshire. He received his master's degree in education from the University of Southern Maine in 1970.

"During World War II, he served in the Navy, and played saxophone in the Navy band on board the ship Rotterdam on the way to Okinawa.

"Mr. Seaver was a former postal employee in Biddeford and became a postal inspector in 1945.

"He taught history at Thornton Academy in Saco and Westbrook High School, and taught English at Biddeford High School until retiring. He also taught adult education at Old Orchard Beach High School, Biddeford High School and St. Francis College.

"He did volunteer work for the Red Cross, was a member of the Maine Association of Retirees and a past member of the Saco School Board.

"He enjoyed music, and was a musician who played with several local groups. He also enjoyed writing poetry.

"He was a communicant at St. Mary's Church, Biddeford.

"Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Alberta Dugas Seaver and a son, Gilman C., both of Saco; two daughters, Lynne A. McGrath of Kennebunkport and Elizabeth C. Sawyer of Saco; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

"There are no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Biddeford. Burial will be in North Troy (Vt.) Cemetery."
