The following notices refer to Gilman Merrill Reid:

Pioneer, Summerside,5 Oct 1891: " Mr. G.M. Reid arrived home with his fast little three-year-old mare Dot last Thursday evening. She is said to have done some fast work on the track here on Friday. While in Mass. she won eight races and lost only one. Good for the plucky Tryon one."

Pioneer, Summerside, 23 Dec 1895: This edition carried a note that of the Prince Edward Island Council of Templars, there was elected, interalia, Vice-Councillor: G.M. Reid.

Eastern Chronicle, (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) 9 Jun 1908, page 8, column 4, under the heading "Personals":

"Mr. G. M. Reid, manager of the Pioneer Publishing Co, Summerside, PEI, was in town on Friday last the guest of Mr. A. A. Clay."

Patriot, 30 Jan 1911: " G.M. Reid, who recently resigned the position of manager of the Pioneer Publishing Company, proposes leaving for a two months trip through the Canadian West about the first of March, after which he will enter upon a course of studies at the Ontario Veterinary College."

The Maple Leaf, Oakland, California, November 1936: "Died at Truro, N.S., on October 23, Gilman M. Reid, aged 78, formerly of Summerside, P.E.I., leaving two sisters."

Halifax Herald, 26 Oct 1936: "G.M. Reid, 78, for the past 12 years a resident of Truro, died Saturday morning, October 24, at the home of his sister, Mrs. E.W. Brooks, 43 King Street. The deceased was a native of Summerside and for the past ten years had been bedridden, suffering from paralysis. He was for some years business manager of the Summerside Pioneer. Mr. Reid was for a number of years a member of the Oddfellows fraternity and was Presbyterian by faith. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Brooks with whom he resided, and Mrs. G.L. Clay, Pleasant Street. The funeral will be held Monday at 2:30 from Muttatall Undertaking Parlors, Walker Street, under auspices of Oddfellows."

Truro Weekly News and Sun Citizen, 29 Oct 1936: "Last tributes to G.M. Reid were paid Monday afternoon, when a large number of friends gathered at Muttatall's Funeral Home where the services were conducted, Rev. W. McN. Matthews officiating.

Hymns sung by members of the First United Church choir were 'Abide With Me' and 'The Sands of Time are Sinking'. Pall bearers were Howard Hayman, Wm. McKenzie, J.R. MacLean, Lester Byers, 
Samuel Quigley and William Rogers, all members of the Phoenix Lodge, I.O.O.F. Interment took place in Robie Street Cemetery where the committal service of the I.O.O.F. was led  by Noble Grand F.S. Steck. The deceased had been a member of the Summerside Prince Edward  Island lodge and was unnmarried. A large number of floral tributes expressed sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives."
