Research notes

  • Giles adopted the name of "Charles" as he didn't like Giles and dropped the "a" from Broadbent-- Reason unknown
  • there is no county named "Sumner" in TX ; there is a Sumner in Lamar county, TX
  • 1873 - "Charles S. Brodbent" appointed by Gov Osborn (Kansas) to Board Of Commissioners of Public Institutions and approved by legislature on March 6, 1873
  • CAUTION: There was a Charles Broadbent in Civil War Unit 18 MA Infantry (E). [1] who is NOT the same man. He is Charles V. Broadbent who apparently died before 20 Jan 1892, as that is when his father applied for a pension based on the son's service.[4]
