    Know all men by these presents that I Gilbert Ragin being of sound & disposing memory but much afflicted in body and being conscious of the uncertainty of life & of the importance of arranging my business matters so as to protect the interests of my family do make this my Will as follows:

    First I Will and desire that all of my debts be paid as soon as possible having a proper regard for the interest of my Estate.

    Second it is my Will & desire that my beloved wife Mary Ann Ragin shall have the entire control & management of my Estate and that she exercise her best discretion & manage the same in such manner as she may think will best promote her interest & the interest of our dear children and woiuld suggest the propriety of her purchasing a tract of land in the Country for a home for her & the children if she can make such purchase as may suit her.

    Third it is my Will & I request my dear wife Mary Ann Ragin to act as my Exectutrix to Carry out the provisions of this Will. Firther I desire that no Court shall exercise any Control over my Estate or over my Executrix in the Management of the same & that she will not be required to give Bond as such Executrix and that no further actioin be had in any Court touching my Estate than the probate of this Will & a registration of an Inventory of my Estate.

    Fourth I hereby revoke all other Wills by me heretofore made.

    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal a scroll used as a Seal this 4th day of October A.D. 1857.

    Monday October the 26th A.D. 1857

    This day personally appeared in open court David K. Jamison and George Gordon two of the subscribing Witnesses to the Last Will and Testament of Gilbert Ragin deceased and after being duly sworn as the law directs doth depose and say that they saw Gilbert Ragin sign his name to said Will bearing date the 4th day of October A.D. 1857 and heard him acknowledge same.
