As a young girl, Gertrude and her five brothers lived in several Midwest towns where the ministry called their father. She graduated from Ansley High School, Ansley, Neb., in 1928. On Sept. 29, 1929, Gertrude married Harold E. Rosenkild at the home of her parents in Audubon, Iowa. After living in Missouri Valley and Atlantic the family moved to Mason City in 1948. Gertrude loved her church family and was a devoted wife and loving mother. She and her husband built a home in P.M. Park in Clear Lake, in the early 1950's. Having her grandchildren spend time there was such fun for her. Besides being a homemaker, Gertrude was a beautiful, prolific poet. Genealogy also captured her interest in 1975. Gertrude was a member of the Double F Club in Clear Lake, Queen Rebekah Lodge, past president of Clear Lake Women's Club and the Clear Lake Progress Club. She was in the North Central Iowa Genealogy Club, Genealogical societies of Ohio State, Laurence Co. Ohio, Schuyler Co. Mo., and Iowa State. She was an associate member of the Telephone Pioneers and was on the Iowa State Board of United Church Women and of Christian Women's Fellowship. She was named club woman of the year in 1963-64. She had three genealogy books published and also some poetry books, among them "My Gift of Love". Gertrude was a former member of Clear Lake Christian Church and then First Christian Church in Mason City. Her faith and love of Jesus guided every aspect of her life and her service to others. Special thanks from Gertrude's family go to the compassionate staff of Health Center 1, second floor West at Good Shepherd for their nearly seven years of tender care, especially Linda Anderson. May God bless you all. Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Doris Alman and husband, Rudy, of Mason City, and Rosemary Seidel of Mason City; five grandchildren, Kerry Halverson and husband, Michael, Scott Alman and wife, Judy, Barbara Smith and husband, Scott, Mark Seidel and wife, Mary Ann, and Tamara Watson and husband, Kevin; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
