[Obituary written for her funeral by her son-in-law, Rev. Craig H. Bode.]

Martha M. Hunter was born in Ogle County on November 8, 1912, the youngest of the four daughters of August and Anna (nee Fredrickson) Anderson. She completed her education in the Rochelle school system and took her training at DeKalb Teacher's College. Her career as a teacher spanning 44 years was interrupted for a time to raise her family. On June 6, 1935, Martha married Harold J. Hunter and their union was blessed with two daughters, Ann and Mary. Retiring from teaching in 1976, Martha and Harold retired to McAllen, Texas. She returned to the Rochelle area in 1988, following Harold's death in 1985. She continued her walk with Christ here joining First Presbyterian Church in 1990, where she continued faithful in worship and service until her death. On the morning of August 15, 1991, Martha departed this life to be in eternity with the Lord she loved and honored throughout the time He gave her on this earth. Martha is survived by her daughters Ann McArthur (Mrs. Peter) and Mary Bode (Mrs. Craig); her grandchildren Nathan McArthur, Emily Bode, Chad McArthur, Sara Bode and Paul Bode; her sister-in-law, Ione Talbot and many other friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her three sisters, Agnes Colwill, Olga Beckman and Esther Anderson. As a devoted wife and mother and a faithful loved one and friend to many, she will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all. "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master." (Matthew 25:23)
