Gershom Tenney's Will
"'Gershom Tenney, late of Boston, sailor, deceased.' (Suffolk Probate, 7C: 10.) The will of Gershom Tenney, dated 10 June, 1768: 'In the name of God, amen. I give and dispose of, giving my beloved Wife Priscilla, in view of her Dower and thirds, my apparell, Books, and all my Household Furniture and movable goods, for her own forever, also the improvement of the Westerly Half or part of my dwelling House in Boston with the Cellar under it and half of the yard room and Alley leading from the Street and appoint her Executrix of this Testament and order her to pay all my just Debts and all Charges. Then I desire my two Sons-in-Law and Daughters, Isaac Chittenden and Persis his Wife, Benjamin Allen and Deborah his Wife to furnish my Executrix with money to pay the same. Then all the rest of my Estate be improved or divided equally between my said named children, but if they refuse or neglect seasonably to bring money to discharge the Debits, Then I order the Easterly land of my House or my Wood land sold for payment as Executrix thinks best. Westerly Part of my House after my Wife's decease to be equally divided as above. If the income … be not sufficient to support her comfortably then my said Sons and Daughters or their Heirs equally be at the charge thereof.' (Suffolk Probate, 67:313-14.) Witnesses, Peter Clark, Eben Faxon, and James Penniman. Probated 13 January, 1769."[2]
