    Gerrit “Bud” Heeringa, age 85, of Lynden, died Sat. Aug. 26, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. A lifetime Whatcom County resident, he was born Mar. 10, 1921 in Lynden to Thomas and Ziena (Assink) Heeringa. He married Nellie Korevaar on May 10, 1944 and together they raised their family and farmed on the Bender Road. Gerrit served on the Lynden Christian School Board and was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder for many years. His hobbies included traveling, reading, Bible study and golf. Favorite times were those spent with his grandchildren.
    Gerrit is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nellie; daughters, Lorna (Tom) Brown of Grand Rapids, MI; Audrey (Harvey) Stob of Ann Arbor, MI; Denise (Ed) Einfeld of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
    Visitation hours will be Tues., Aug. 29th, 1 to 8 pm at Gillies Funeral Home with family members present to greet visitors from 5 to 7 pm. Graveside services will be Wed. Aug 30, 1:15 pm at Monumenta Cemetery with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 W Front St, Lynden with Rev. Barry Blankers officiating.
