Facts and Events
Born and married to Charlotte Hider as George Willey. At some point, he and his family started using the surname of Willard. The last Willard Child was born in New York. James William Willard born 1866. Anneta Willard was born Aug 1864 in Canada. So moved to New York between those 2 dates. The 1866 Rochester City Directory lists George Williard, the 1865 does not. The 1867 City Directory lists Charlotte, Widow of George. So that along with the children’s birth dates ties in with moving to New York between late 1864 and early 1866. That would also give us a death date for George of about 1866-1867. The 1920 census for Anneta Debates in Bay City shows immigration in 1864 and born in Canada. So means between August to end of December 1864 if that is not an error. The 1930 census in Bay City says Annetta immigrated in 1867. But James born in New York 1866. Any of the Census info on James in Bay City gives his birth place as New York. There are 2 James Willard's in Bay City both living on the same street Marsac so need to make sure you have the right one. James's wife is Minnie. His address was 2012 Marsac St. They are buried in Elm Lawn cemetery. Funeral home was Hyatt Funeral Home in Bay City. Died 9-15-44. Annetta Willard DeBats also buried through Hyatt's. Annetta died 10-15-50 I wonder if the 2 James Willard's are related...maybe cousins. The other James Willard was born in Canada. Maybe that is how our Willard's went to Canada in the first place? There is a Levi Willard in Bay County that a village or township is named after WILLARD. I pass through it when I take the back way to Midland on Beaver Road. But when I looked him up he was from Ohio orginally. Who knows, maybe there is a connection there or maybe not. That would be a reason to know about Bay County. It always makes me wonder what makes any of the ancesters move where they move too. Another brother Thomas Willard was born in Canada and the census lists him as immigrating in 1870. Weird. His wife is Lilly. 1900 in Bay City and in 1910 in Saginaw County. There is a Charles Willard born 1862 listed in Saginaw on 1900 census. I assume the Charles who is another brother to Thomas, James, Annetta, and Mary. They are all listed on the 1880 census in Bay City living together except our great grandmother Mary. Their mother is spelled Sharlotte Willard on the census. I have not found any death info on Sharlotte/Charlotte. Not found on the 1900 census. No death record found at Elm Lawn cemetery. References
