George Herbert Wardwell attended Bentley College and Wentworth Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. He worked for many years for the Boston Edison Company. He started as an installer and worked up to middle management. At the end of his career his office was in the Boston Edison Building at the Corner of Tremont and Boylston Streets in Boston. This is the same building now occupied by Emerson College as part of its campus. This is also the college from which his grandson, Gerald Wardwell graduated in 1980.

He was a very capable man with knowledge about many things. He was handy with building and plumbing, electrical and virtually any kind of work that needed doing around a home.

When his marriage to Mary Drew ended, he had to move from the house in Chatham and for a while he lived in Conway, New Hampshire . Then he moved back to Chatham. He lived for a time in a building on Gertrude Haley's property. When the weather turned cool, he moved into Gertude's house. He always said that he was a boarder there but??

While he was in Chatham, he became very active in Chatham life and politics. He enjoyed the country life very much and entered his garden produce, slides and other photographs in the Fryeberg Fair each year. He lived there until 1974 when he moved to Woburn, Massachusetts. -Barbara Wardwell Peterson
